Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO issued the following announcement.
Today, Vermont AFL-CIO Vice President Kattie Harris (of the progressive United! slate) attended the annual May Day parade in Havana, Cuba. VP Harris is in Havana as part of an international youth delegation offering solidarity with the Cuban people.
Cuba, an island nation of over 11,000,000, has suffered a decades long economic embargo by the U.S. government. Harris, along with many other Union members across the United States, knows that the embargo is immoral, hurts working families, and must be brought to an end.
Vice President Harris is spending some days in Cuba in order to meet with Union leaders & community activists in order to better understand the realities of this socialist nation. The delegation she is part of was organized, in part, by U.S. Labor Against Racism & War (which the Vermont AFL-CIO is a proud member of). As a Vice President in the Vermont AFL-CIO and President of Local 1674, she may be the highest ranking U.S. Union official in Cuba on this May Day.
The Vermont AFL-CIO stands in solidarity with Union members and working people in Cuba, and everywhere in the world. Let Cuba Live!
