Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO issued the following announcement.

AFSCME LOCAL 1343, SOUTH BURLINGTON, SECURE 6.76% RAISES IN YEAR ONE OF NEW THREE YEAR COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT - UNION YES!

Last week members of AFSCME Local 1343 [Vermont], South Burlington city workers, ratified a new three year Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The new Contract, among other things, achieves:

* 6.76% average total raises in year one via slotting into a new and improved step grid;

* A $20 an hour minimum rate of pay for all (which translates into 7%+ raises in year one for less senior DPW workers);

* Year two COLA floats with CPI up to 4%, plus a guaranteed 1.5% step raise (thus combined raises up to 5.5%);

* Year three COLA floats with CPI up to 3.5%, plus a guaranteed 1.5% step raise (thus combined raises up to 5%);

* The few senior workers off the step grid to get an annual 1.5% bonus in years 2 & 3;

* Parks & Rec workers to have more stable schedule with more OT opportunities;

* No change to healthcare;

* No meaningful concessions;

The Vermont AFL-CIO congratulates South Burlington Union Chapter Chair Todd Gregory, the Bargaining Team, and the rank & file members of Local 1343 for securing a fine new CBA and once again showing that there is POWER IN THE UNION!

-VT AFL-CIO

1343 was not the only Local to secure a new CBA in recent days.  Also recently ratifying a new CBA were Fair Haven workers from AFSCME Local 1201.  Here the Fair Haven Union won average raises of 7%+ in year one through a number of major reclassifications, targeted raises based on market adjustments, and a minimum raise of $1 an hour (with raise re-openers in years two and three).  Thus the VT AFL-CIO also congratulates Fair Haven workers from 1201 for securing their own solid Union contract.
