Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO issued the following announcement.
This week Vermont AFL-CIO President David Van Deusen and Executive Director Liz Medina (a UAW member) are both in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Delegates to the National AFL-CIO Convention. From the Convention floor Van Deusen and Medina have been vocally advocating for the labor federation to support a transition to a more rank & file driven and democratic structure. They have also been sounding the alarm about a rising fascism in the United States and the need to prepare now for a second coup attempt in the U.S. in 2024.
However, Vermont's two resolutions on these matters were surprised by National AFL-CIO leadership and neither was allowed to be debated or voted on by the Delegates.
With these realities in place, President Van Deusen conducted an interview today with San Francisco's Work Week Radio. In the interview Van Deusen discussed the fight for Union democracy, the rise of fascism, and the dynamics of the National Convention as they are unfolding.
