Downed trees knocked out power to tens-of-thousands of households

10

THANK YOU VERMONT UNION MEMBERS FOR HEROIC STORM RESPONSE AS CHRISTMAS APPROACHES - VERMONT DOES NOT WORK WITHOUT YOU!

Yesterday's historic storm brought hurricane force winds (130 mph recorded on Mount Mansfield), a torrential downpour, spot flooding, followed by drastically falling temperatures with a flash freeze and snow to our Green Mountains.  Downed trees knocked out power to tens-of-thousands of households. One Vermonter tragically died in the storm.  Coming just one day before Christmas Eve, without the heroic efforts of Union members across Vermont, this storm could have been a much worse disaster.

Therefore, the Vermont AFL-CIO would like to recognize and deeply thank our Union DPW crews, State AOT workers, and electrical workers for going out and battling the storm and fighting to get the roads passable and restore power while the rest of us were advised by the Department of Public safety to stay home at all costs.  Your dedication, professionalism, and bravery as essential workers is inspirational.  Thank you AFSCME, IBEW, UA, LIUNA, USW and VSEA crews everywhere.  Vermont cannot work without you!
