Last week a group of 28 newly appointed young leaders from across the state convened at the first meeting of the Vermont State Youth Council. The Council is charged with providing Governor Phil Scott and state legislators advice and recommendations on policies that impact young Vermonters.
United Way is excited to see Vermont’s youth having a seat at the table and a chance to have their voices heard on issues that directly affect them. Including and amplifying youth voice is especially critical to strategic initiatives United Way is leading such as our Mental Health Initiative, which has an Action Team focused on addressing the youth mental health crisis, and the Northwest Vermont Regional Prevention Network, which has a working group devoted to Amplifying Youth Voice.
We look forward to working alongside Vermont's young leaders, state agencies, community members, and organizations like Vermont Afterschool and UP for Learning as we bring the region together to address mental health needs, prevent substance misuse, and promote wellbeing among youth and young adults.
