The Slate Quarry Park Group and the Town of Poultney held a Grand Opening of The Slate Quarry Park on Friday, July 29, 2022..  The park was designed to both honor the slate industry which is a backbone of the Poultney economy;  it also provides the downtown area with a space for relaxation, small gatherings, and performances.

Along with the ribbon cutting, the ceremony included a welcome by Larry Sullivan, remarks by Town manager Paul Donaldson, House Minority Leader Pattie McCoy, and the reading of a poem “Poultney Rises” by the author, Carolyn Stellatalla.  A drone rose to take overhead photos of the gathering while the crowd raised in response.

A planned reception after the ceremony included a tour of the park, music by the Hermit Hollow String Band, and light refreshments served by members of the Poultney Methodist Church.   The ceremoney reflected the intentions of the Park Group as people gathered to relax, socialize, and be entertained.

The Poultney Area Chamber of Commerce salutes the Park Group and all the volunteers, donors, and workers who helped make Slate Quarry Park a reality!
