Vermont Agency of Natural Resources issued the following announcement.

Today we’re highlighting Ethan! Ethan oversees and supports the maintenance and operations programs of the southeastern Vermont State Parks region. He also participates in long-range planning in the Springfield District Stewardship Team as the recreation expertise specialist.

From Ethan: I started reading Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey again. Understanding that it was written in the 1950s when opportunities like this were given almost exclusively to white men, I am viewing it a differently now but many of the themes still resonate, like this one: “A (person) on foot, on horseback or on a bicycle will see more, feel more, enjoy more in one mile than the motorized tourists can in a hundred miles.”  We’re incredibly lucky to be the stewards of hundreds of thousands of acres held in the public trust for all that live in and visit Vermont.

It’s part of our Agency’s Earth Day tradition to name a handful of our colleagues as “Earth Day Heroes” — folks doing great work to steward Vermont’s natural resources for all to enjoy. For the next few days we’ll be featuring this year’s Earth Day Heroes!
