Who doesn’t love a grainy mystery critter photo?

In this case the critter is actually no mystery, just a rarity: a piebald deer! Piebald, or leucistic, coloration is a form of pigment loss that can be partial or complete in tissue like skin, feathers, and fur, but that never affects the eyes like true albinism. We don’t have an official estimate on piebald deer numbers in Vermont, but the handful of reports we receive suggest they are exceptionally uncommon.

Thanks to Steven Berenback for sharing this great sighting from Charlotte!
