Vermont State Labor Council AFL-CIO issued the following announcement on March 15.
The Vermont AFL-CIO backs those that back us. And from picket lines to Card Check, David Zuckerman, a member of the Vermont Progressive Party, has always been a reliable friend to Organized Labor. Therefore it is with pleasure the the Executive Board of the Vermont State Labor Council has voted to endorse David Zuckerman in the Democratic Primary.
Dan Cornell, District Vice President for Bennington County, said about the endorsement: "David Zuckerman is our guy and the reasons why are easy: experience, dedication to all Vermonters, and an understanding of the real issues we face not just in labor but across the board. He’s a true ‘boots on the ground’ guy!"
Zuckerman has been a strong advocate for working people throughout his career. As a Legislator, David championed the issue of pay equity, introducing several pieces of legislation to both raise Vermont’s minimum wage and index it to inflation. He has also fought for policies that would benefit working people including expanding childcare, implementing paid family leave, and creating a universal healthcare system.
“I am honored to once again receive the support of the Vermont AFL-CIO,” said Zuckerman. “Through history, we have seen that stronger union presence means better wages and benefits for everyone. Vermont needs strong labor unions to ensure protections for all workers around the state.
"As Lieutenant Governor, I vow to support our unions and work to strengthen the labor movement by fighting for majority sign-up, also known as card check elections, as well as union protections and prevailing wages on state contracts. I will continue to advocate for policies that support everyday workers, from paid family leave to raising wages and moving towards universal healthcare.”
The Vermont AFL-CIO looks forward to helping Zuckerman win this primary so we can send him, a true labor champion, back to Montpelier.
